Why we vet facilities

We only recommend facilities we've reviewed.

Before any family is connected with a facility, we check their compliance record, quality indicators, and specialist capabilities. Not every approved facility meets our standard — and government approval alone does not tell you whether a facility is the right fit for your family member.

What we look at

Seven areas — each one matters for a different reason.

Compliance record
We check the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission record for any notices, sanctions, or serious incidents specific to that facility.
Approved provider status
The facility must be a registered and currently approved residential aged care facility under the Australian aged care framework.
Quality indicator results
We review star ratings and quality indicator data where available, including pressure injuries, falls, and unplanned weight loss.
Specialist capabilities
Dementia care units, palliative care programs, younger residents programs, cultural and language support — we align capabilities to the client's specific needs.
Staffing levels
Direct care minutes per resident, nursing coverage, and reliance on agency staff all factor into our assessment of care consistency.
Facility environment
Physical environment, room types, communal spaces, and outdoor access — important for residents' wellbeing and quality of life.
Geographic coverage
Whether the facility genuinely has availability in the family's preferred area — not just a nominal service footprint.

What disqualifies a facility

Any of the following will exclude a facility from our recommendations:

Active compliance notices or sanctions from the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
Unable to meet the client's specific care needs — including specialist dementia, palliative, or cultural requirements
No current availability in the relevant geographic area
Poor quality indicator performance without a clear, documented improvement plan

Our independence pledge

We do not own, invest in, or receive payments from any facility outside our disclosed referral fee. We recommend based on fit — not on commercial relationship.

That means we have no incentive to steer your family toward any particular facility. Our only interest is finding the best match for your situation.
