The simple version

Your total home care cost = government subsidy + your personal contribution + provider management fees.

WithSally is always free for families. The government subsidy is always free. Your personal contribution depends on your income and assets — assessed by Services Australia individually. Provider management fees come out of your budget, not your pocket.

Step 1: Your funding level determines your budget

Your ACAT assessment places you in one of 8 funding levels. Each level comes with an annual government subsidy — the higher your level, the greater your care needs and the larger your budget.

Levels 1–2
approx. $10,000–$17,000/year government subsidy
Levels 3–4
approx. $21,000–$30,000/year
Levels 5–6
approx. $40,000–$49,000/year
Levels 7–8
approx. $58,000–$78,000/year

Step 2: Your means-tested contribution

Services Australia assesses your income and assets to determine your personal contribution. The three illustrative scenarios below give a general picture — your actual contribution is determined individually.

Full Age Pensioner
Typically lower or no means-tested contribution. Services Australia assesses each individual — some full pensioners pay nothing beyond the basic daily fee.
~
Part pensioner or modest income/assets
A moderate means-tested contribution may apply, determined individually by Services Australia based on your income and assets.
Self-funded retiree with significant income/assets
A higher means-tested contribution is likely. The exact amount is determined by Services Australia — there is an annual and lifetime cap on total means-tested contributions.

These are illustrative scenarios only. Your actual contribution is determined by Services Australia individually, based on your income and assets at the time of assessment.

Step 3: Provider management fees

Providers charge a management fee from your budget — not out of your own pocket — to cover coordination, administration, and case management. Fees vary by provider and must be clearly disclosed before you sign anything.

Always ask for a full written fee schedule before signing. The right provider maximises the portion of your budget spent on actual care — not administration.

Management fees vary significantly between providers

Choosing the right provider can meaningfully increase the hours of actual care you receive. WithSally considers fee transparency as part of our vetting process.

How to get your actual figure

Your formal cost estimate comes from two government assessments — both free.

1
Get ACAT assessed (free)
Contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au. An Aged Care Assessment Team member will assess your care needs and recommend a funding level.
2
Request an income and assets assessment
My Aged Care will refer you to Services Australia, who will assess your income and assets to determine your personal contribution. This assessment is also free.
3
Receive your formal contribution notice
Services Australia will send you a letter stating exactly what you will contribute per day. This is your actual figure — not an estimate.
4
Choose a provider
WithSally helps here
With your funding level confirmed, choose an approved Support at Home provider. Their written fee schedule shows what management fees apply to your budget. This is the step WithSally helps with.

WithSally is always free for families. We are paid a referral fee by the provider when you sign a service agreement — you never pay us a cent.
